To the Sahlgrenska Center for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research at the University of Gothenburg.

Our strategic research center is focused on metabolic and cardiovascular research. It is based on partnerships between clinical and basic medical sciences, bioinformatics and applied mathematics.

CMR is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy, the University of Gothenburg. The center cooperates with the Wallenberg Laboratory and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Surgery reduces heart attacks by one third
 

NEWS: 2012-01-04
Last year about 10 000 Swedes when through bariatric surgery. A new study from one of the teams at CMR and the Sahlgrenska Academy shows that those who undergo bariatric surgery reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by 30% - a conclusion that can change the priorities in obesity surgery.

Insurance company grants CMR researchers

NEWS: 2011-12-13

AFA Försäkring distributes money for research related to heart diseases; CMR Investigator Fredrik Bäckhed has been granted for his studies on bacteria flora as a new way of preventing heart disease and Investigator Elmir Omerovic for his studies on the mysterious stress related phenomenon Broken Heart Syndrome.
